Feeling of Losing

That pit in your stomach that you get. That feeling that you just are not good enough. Possibly even that feeling of questioning what you are doing. In my opinion those are all what I think about when I think of losing. I have always said that losing is my not biggest problem when it comes to anything. It is the idea of not winning. I honestly don't even think that I enjoy winning unless it is the championship of something. Don't misunderstand me winning is what I strive for but I always believe that I should be winning no matter the situation.

The problem that I always face as a baseball coach and this is something which I think I enjoy the most out of coaching is that I have no control about so many factors in the game. I can only do so much to help the players and the rest is out of my hands. This fear of letting go and losing control can scare many people but to me this is what makes me want to coach. This idea that I need to have my players ready for different situations that they may encounter during the game. Or to be ready for something that might happen in a single game.

Sometimes I worry that I am not doing enough as a coach that I am somehow falling short. I would never point the finger at any player or players on my team as them being the reason why we lost. What does frustrate me and I am unsure that you can really teach this is the idea of battling and wanting to alway scrape and fight to stay in a game no matter what the score is. I think that needs to comes from players on the team buying in to the philosophy put together by the coaching staff along with enjoying the company of their teammates.

Players often do not seem to care about winning, this might come from the society in which we live in now where it is ok to lose. I as a coach do not stress the idea of winning every game, but what I do want to stress is this idea of getting better each day realizing your own potential and bringing a winning attitude to the field. I question that the most in my coach and this is something I always come back to as a baseball coach the question being are my players improving?

Often I believe that they are getting better and I don't think that the legion team has hit it's stride when it comes to summer games but I am always looking at myself first as to why we might have lost a particular game. The key thing to look at is each and every day did we get better? Did we improve? Are we as a team getting better?
